At the beginning of her career, Founder Sara Kudra, worked on the full rehabilitation of RISD’s Illustration Studies Building (ISB). This was a special project for Sara as an alumnus of the school and it became an integral part of her professional growth.
As part of the core team of architects working on the project, Sara contributed to the strategy and vision for the planning and drafting of the complete renovation of the building.
The old mercantile building sits beside the Providence River in a historic district and pursuant to campus comprehensive planning rules. While emissions targets were not yet a part of the conversation, the work to revitalize an existing building for the next 100 years of occupancy spoke directly to the importance of existing assets and the value of their embodied carbon and to the cultural memory of the community of which they are a part.
